The Utopia hair salon on Mayflower street in plymouth were asked to organise the launch show for the UK leg of the Blend product launch.
They asked us to make a film for the opening. They has a one line brief… 80/90 hours of hard work later this was finished… Due to legal reasons I’ve not included any of the footage of the show…
The show started with some BMXers and a few dancers I think, can’t remember because we were locked in a VIP balcony room bursting with excitement ha ha - the film started after the ‘Blend’ product range introductory video, and was shown on a massive big screen and 16 (!!) smaller projector screens around the main room, and ends with us bursting through the doors in to the main room of the club where the show was being held. We did so to massive applause and loads of cheers and I had to jog through a sea of women and girls all smiling, clapping and cheering staright at me… It’s hard work but someone has to do it….
Due to the 12 day time limit and a severe lack of control over resources there were a lot of problems but most were overcome. The main problems were caused by rapidly changing weather and no control over lighting, which is clearly visable in a lot of the shots, even after all attempts in post production to correct it…
I could go on but suffice to say, after a one line brief and only 12 days until the show, as well as absolutely NO BUDGET and no pay - I think it’s an amazing result and so does everyone who’s seen it….
‘Flava’ from Britain’s got talent were at the show too and by all accounts, including all those who spoke to us on the night, our film and our seamless entrance, were the highlights of the evening, not them… wicked..
And yeah, we are wearing K Swiss Ariake which were actually amazing and I’m not just plugging them, but if K swiss would like to reward us for such product placement we won’t argue ha ha….
The most important thing about this film is for once, it’s REAL PARKOUR - no showmanship, no tricks, no unneccasary manouvres, all paths and movements were designed to get us to the show on time and make the story work…. It’s about time people started making films with parkour in and keep it real and stop trying to show off, and stop with all this stupid teenage power trip behind the keyboard forum politics bol***ks about what is and what isn’t parkour….
I’ll be interested in the comments…
oh, and my running partner is Nathaniel Boyson, and the girl he ‘bumps’ into is actually his Fiancee (recently announced - congrats again…) Gemma Stamp…
There were loads of people involved in the filming and if you’re one of them and would like a mention here just ask, otherwise I won’t bother cos it’ll take too long….
That’s enough I’m writing a bloody essay ha ha…
I hope you enjoy
